Courage is something few of us think about during our active and busy lives. But courage is an important part of our existence and is in some ways the determiner of our path. Have you ever thought about how courage plays a role in your life?
As I watch athletic events I’m continually reminded about the role of courage in the lives of our world athletes. Can you imagine how much courage it must take to compete in front of millions of watchers all over the world? Every step they take, every word they speak is captured for all of us to see. That is real courage and action.
There is a more subtle courage that is all around us and plays an important role in our lives. There is the courage of the ex-alcoholic who turns away from temptation. There is courage of speaking your own mind and not following the crowd. There is the courage to awaken each day to do your best in the world at whatever occupation you may have chosen. There is the courage to place 1 foot in front of the other when your pathway becomes difficult.
There is the courage to love when the world seems so far away.
it takes courage to accept the love of another without any strings or attachments. It takes courage to begin each day thinking of creating love in every encounter you face, it takes courage to begin a sentence with us instead of me. It takes courage to correct the wrong when you see it. It takes courage to breathe, to allow your heart to beat and to find the pulse of your being.
courage is found in the smallest moments of your life if you only take the time to feel its presence. I see courage when my 90-year- old father asked me for help or when my stepmother who had courage combating Alzheimer’s disease wondering where she was at times. She asked simply for the recognition of being not for anything else. Courage at times has beauty attached to it.
Think about courage as you go about this week. Think about how you and those you know incorporate it’s genius into your lives.
You will be amazed at the contribution courage makes to your world and the world around you. It is a small word with a huge impact in our lives. Courage is to be given away as you live your life. It is to be seen but not heard. It is to be the gift you give others silently but completely. Such a gift brings new life to the pathways you encounter as you live your life from within its grasp. Think about courage, about creating an umbrella of peace. Think about your life and the lives of those you love. Then, show them how courage has change your world by simply noticing its presence, feeling its abundance, and recognizing how it presents you with wonder as you walk your pathway through life.
